GENERAL INFORMATION

The training course on “Import controls on certain feed and food of non-animal origin (FNAO)” is part of the contract CHAFEA/2012/96/02 on Organisation and implementation of training activities on Movement and import controls of feed, food and animals mainly for EU Member States under the “Better Training for Safer Food”

The specific objectives of this project are:

• Provide training to competent authority officials to reach a common understanding of the EU legislation on import controls of certain feed and food of non-animal origin.

• To spread knowledge and best practices on increased level of official controls on certain feed and food of non-animal origin coming in from third countries, in order to increase the level of expertise with regards to food safety issues concerning import of certain feed and food of non-animal origin.

• To harmonise import controls of certain feed and food of non-animal origin to avoid the exposure of the European consumer to excessively high levels of hazardous compounds such as mycotoxins (aflatoxin B1, a very carcinogenic compound) or residues of pesticides (that might exceed the Acute Reference Dose when consumed) or microbiological contamination (e.g. salmonella).
