The "Better Training for Safer Food" (BTSF) is an initiative of the European Commission’s Health and Food Safety Directorate-General (DG SANTE) aimed at organising a European Union (EU) training strategy in the areas of food law, feed law, animal health and animal welfare rules, as well as plant health rules.
The BTSF programme is designed predominantly to train staff of competent authorities of EU Member States involved in official control activities so as to keep them up-to-date with all aspects of EU law in the areas specified above and to ensure that controls are carried out in a more uniform, objective and adequate manner in all Member States. However, it is also essential that non-EU countries and in particular developing countries are familiar with EU standards and import requirements. For this purpose, training organised for Member States in the EU is also available to participants from non-EU countries and specific training activities are organised for non-EU country participants on the spot.
Duration phase 1: 2018-2020
Number of events: 12 three-days events
Expected number of participants: approximately 30 supported participants for each workshop.
The objective of the training is to continue cooperation activities on information management systems at international level with a view to further raise awareness and contribute to a better understanding and more efficient use of existing EU SPS information management systems by the competent authorities and other stakeholders in non-EU countries. It will also aim to facilitate their integration as active users in these systems and in the specific case of the TRACES system, support them in adapting it, in accordance with the principles used at EU level by this system, for the exchange of information both inside the country and between countries located in the same geographical region.
