DG SANTE
Our goal is to make Europe a healthier, safer place, where citizens can be confident that their interests are protected.
A zero-risk society may not be possible but we are doing as much as we can to reduce and manage risks for our citizens.
CHAFEA
Currently Chafea implements the EU Health Programme, the Consumer Programme, Better Training for Safer Food initiative (BTSF) and the Promotion of Agriculture Products Programme.
European Union's food safety policy
The European Union's food safety policy aims to protect consumers, while guaranteeing the smooth operation of the single market. Dating from 2003, the policy centres on the concept of traceability both of inputs (e.g. animal feed) and of outputs (e.g. primary production, processing, storage, transport and retail sale).
European Food Safety Authority (EFSA)
Food is essential to life. EFSA provides scientific advice to protect consumers, animals and the environment from risks associated with food.
